Between two times
Add or subtract time
Why a time-duration tool is so handy
Adding and subtracting time by hand is deceptively awkward, because the clock works in sixties rather than tens. Ask most people to work out the gap between nine in the morning and half past five in the evening and they will pause, because minutes do not borrow and carry the way ordinary numbers do. This tool removes that friction. Enter a start and an end time and it returns the exact duration in hours and minutes, even when the end time falls past midnight, so an overnight shift from ten in the evening to six in the morning is counted correctly as eight hours rather than a confusing negative.
Two everyday jobs in one place
The calculator handles the two questions people ask most. The first is "how long is it between these two times?", which is what you need for working out a shift length, the duration of a meeting or class, a journey, a cooking time, or hours to put on a timesheet or an invoice. The second is "what time will it be if I add or subtract some hours and minutes?", which is what you need when planning when to set off, when something started, or when a process that takes a fixed length will finish. You can subtract as well as add by entering a negative number of hours, so the same panel works in both directions.
Part of a complete time toolkit
This tool deals in hours and minutes within a day. When your question stretches across whole days instead, the date-difference calculator measures the gap between two dates, the working-days calculator counts only weekdays, and the countdown timer ticks down to a future moment. For timing something live, the stopwatch records elapsed time to the hundredth of a second. Between them, every scale of time, from a few minutes to many years, is covered, and like all of these tools the time-duration calculator runs entirely in your browser, so it is instant and private.
